Amanda Tran, Co-President
Amanda is a senior at OLP in San Diego, California, where she leads the school’s math team - the only all-girls team to compete in the Caltech Harvey Mudd Math Competition for the past two years. She has participated in competitions such as the American Math Competitions, Science Olympiad, and the National French Contest - winning medals and ranking nationally in some of them. At the core of her interest in STEM is a passion for neuroscience and the human brain. Amanda assisted researchers at UCSD's neuroscience lab that focuses on neurodegenerative diseases, specifically Alzheimer’s. At COSMOS, she experimented with OpenBCI software using MATLAB to create a program allowing you to play a video game using only your brain. The program was developed and tested using both computer science and neuroscience principles. Outside of school and STEM activities, Amanda actively plays and performs classical music. She has won first prizes for solo and ensemble performances, and was invited to perform in places like Colorado Springs, Los Angeles, Carnegie Hall, and Parco della Musica. At every AGSS event, Amanda always has a great time working and learning alongside the girls. She also enjoys working behind the scenes to make sure everyone has a fun time. In her free time, Amanda loves baking for friends, and watching Chicago Med and FBI.
