New Location, Renewed Commitment.
The All Girls STEM Society Virginia Chapter was founded upon co-founder Eleni Fafoutis' departure from California and relocation to Virginia Beach, Virginia. In Virginia, Eleni re-founded the All Girls STEM Society as a new chapter, with a new mission. This chapter is committed to not only helping young women find a passion for STEM, but also to encourage underprivileged and minority students, both boys and girls, to pursue a career in STEM as well, as they too are severely underrepresented in the world of science and engineering. While at Hampton Roads, the Virginia Chapter is proud to have worked with underprivileged students from the Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, and Norfolk locations.
In 2020, the Virginia Chapter moved to the University of Virginia Grounds in the City of Charlottesville, committing the same spirit of service that AGSS was founded upon in San Diego, but also intending to build upon that commitment to expand the groups we serve. In the past 5 years, the Virginia Chapters have established different partnerships with the local elementary schools, libraries, and after-school programs, advocating STEM education within the local communities. It also supported many female university students to pursue STEM majors and to succeed in their future careers. From San Diego to the Hamptons area, and now Charlottesville, we hope to continue to expand the reach of our work and provide accessible resources to explore the STEM field to the community around us.
