Avrey Larson, Director of Technology CurriculumAvrey Larson currently attends Canyon Crest Academy in San Diego, California. She is passionate about getting girls involved in STEM and is working hard to make changes in her community and beyond. She has been accepted as a speaker to a TedX event and will be giving her talk, “Don’t Be Left Behind The Driving Force of The Human Race,” in January of 2018. Over the summer, she did a 7-week summer immersion program through Girls Who Code at Warner Brother’s Studios where she created an app, learned about video game development and web design, and established relationships with many amazing mentors. She was accepted to the San Diego Youth Space Program in the fall of 2017 under the position of a coder for the project being sent to the International Space Station. She was accepted into the National Math Lab and is the captain of her robotics team. In addition, Avrey has been working with WeSecure Robotics to bring the first autonomous security robot to market. She is licensed by Coderz to teach the coding software and utilize their materials. Avrey recently gave a series of talks at her school about the importance of women in STEM, which has been since published on the WeSecure Robotics website and shared with Dr. Nile El Wardani as a source for her upcoming book. In addition to science, technology, engineering, and math, Avrey loves english and art. She won the regional Patriot’s Pen writing competition and has enrolled in many amazing art classes. In her free time, Avrey enjoys sharing her love of STEM, reading, writing, drawing, playing her guitar, playing lacrosse and water polo, and travelling the world with friends and family.
