Meet the San Diego team!

​Veronica Tang, President/Co-founder

Veronica Tang is a junior at the Bishop's School.  She is the Assistant Box Office Manager for the San Diego International Fringe Festival, where she applies her computer programming skills to enhance online box office system.  Veronica attended the UCSD COSMOS residential summer camp in 2015, where she became well-versed in MIT App Inventor, Scribbler, and Arduino. She is a 2016 winner of the San Diego Affiliate NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing.  She also competed in the American Regional Math League in 2014 and 2016 and qualified for American Invitational Math Exam in 2016.    Her writing has won the CATE Student Creative Writing Contest in 2015 and Scholastic Creative Writing Awards in 2015 and 2016; she has also written for her school political magazine, Zenger.  In her free time, Veronica loves dancing, studying calligraphy, and tutoring refugees.

Kevin Chen, Director of Curriculum

​Kevin Chen is currently a senior at The Bishop’s School in La Jolla, California. He recently interned at Qualcomm, under their corporate Research and Development department, and placed second in the intern hackathon. This year, Kevin is the co-editor-in-chief of Quanta Science Magazine. Additionally, Kevin is the president of Math Club and has won numerous math and physics awards both individually and with Bishop’s teams. In 2015, he qualified for the USAJMO. Kevin placed sixteenth and eighteenth internationally in Physics Bowl Division II for 2015 and 2016. In 2015, he was also a member of the US Physics Team. Kevin participates in several extracurricular activities such as varsity tennis and Computer Club. In his free time, he enjoys working with origami and stained-glass.

​Tiffany Zhang, Director of Social Media

Tiffany Zhang is currently a senior at The Bishop’s School.  She is on the cyber security team CyberKnights, which qualified for the Gold Tier Regional Round of the CyberPatriot competition in 2016.  Tiffany loves to program and is fluent in Java and Python.  Meanwhile, she has coded mods for the video games League of Legends, Minecraft, Dragon Nest, and Fiesta.  She is an avid writer, and two million people have read her writing, which she publishes online.  Tiffany plays many instruments, including piano, and she has reached level 9 in Certificate of Merit.  In her free time, she enjoys gaming, drawing, and modeling.

Sahil Malhotra, Co-director of Operations

Sahil Malhotra is a junior at the Bishop's School. One of his passions is martial arts, and he is working towards his black belt in Taekwondo. Sahil is an internationally ranked Chess player and attends chess tournaments most notably, The Southern California Chess Open. Sahil also loves to program and is fluent in two coding languages. He is also fluent in three languages: Spanish, Hindi and Punjabi. He loves to cook food, and often does over the weekend. Sahil's hobbies are chess, reading books (Favorite Book: The Martian by Andy Weir), learning about scientific theories, history, cooking.

​Flora Chen, Director of Digital Media

​Flora Chen is a junior at The Bishop’s School.  She was one of the few artists selected by San Diego Young Artists in 2015; her work was featured in The San Diego Art Museum in Balboa Park.  Flora is well versed in Photoshop, Illustrator, and Lightroom, and she used her skills to design the logos for Andesign, an interior design company, as well as Eye on Visual Arts, The Bishop’s School’s visual arts organization.  Flora loves photography, anime, and design, and she spends her free time drawing, listening to music, designing clothes and interior decorations, as well as studying philosophy, chemistry, and biology.

​Danica Chen, Director of Communications

Danica Chen is currently a sophomore at Del Norte high school in San Diego, California. She has received awards from several organizations and competitions. In the yearly contest hosted by California Association of Teachers of English, she ranked second place in her division. She earned an honorable mention in the international The Leyla Beban Young Authors Foundation's 1000 Word Contest. She participated in Science Olympiad and ranked at state level. Her work has been published in Stone Soup magazine. In her free time, she enjoys reading Shakespeare, writing poetry, and listening to hip hop music about the founding fathers. ​

​William Tian, Co-director of Operations

William Tian is currently a junior at the Bishops School, located in La Jolla, California. He is an avid swimmer, currently working his way to a sectionals cut, where he will be able to compete with top swimmers from around the nation. In addition, he enjoys scientific research, having completed a research project regarding the effects of newly synthesized anticancer compounds on a variety of cancer cells. His favorite subjects in school are Math and Biology. He is also fluent in two foreign languages, Chinese and Spanish, and loves to program, having become fluent in Java and Python. In his free time, he loves to play the saxophone, game, read books, and perform scientific experiments. ​

Crystal Wang, Director of Publicity

Crystal Wang is a sophomore at The Bishop's School. She was the winner of the 2013 San Diego Book Awards Kids Write and received a Gold Key from the state-level 2015 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Crystal has also been involved in math competitions since middle school. She placed 4th at the San Diego MathCounts 2015 Chapter Competition and 21st at the Southern California 2015 MathCounts State Competition, and she qualified for the AIME in both 2015 and 2016. Crystal was also one of the 6 members of the San Diego Math Circle team that competed at the 2015 Caltech Harvey Mudd Math Competition, which placed 8th out of 45 teams in California. Additionally, she attended both the 2016 ARML Competition and the 2016 Math Prize for Girls. Besides writing and math, Crystal also enjoys watching television and YouTube, reading books, and listening to indie folk music.
