Emmie Kao, Senior Advisory CouncilEmmie is a senior at The Bishop’s School in La Jolla, California. She has loved STEM for as long as she can remember, participating in math contests and coding activities since middle school. This interest has propelled her to pursue several STEM-related opportunities, including internships at the University of San Diego and Stonybrook University. Emmie has also discovered data science as a way to utilize her STEM skills to affect tangible change in society. Specifically, she is learning to apply statistics and machine learning to real-world data to analyze ways of improving our communities; in previous years, she ran an on-campus study regarding student mental health with her club, Data Science for Change, in addition to running a hackathon with the Society of Women Engineers. Through her work, Emmie hopes to encourage her classmates to use STEM to impact their own communities. In her free time, Emmie plays soccer and tennis, sings, and reads on the couch with a dog on her lap.
