By Danica Chen, Del Norte High SchoolAs the All Girls STEM Society began its fourth annual All Girls Math Tournament on April 15th, 2018, it was clear to see how much the organization had grown since its inception three years ago.

The All Girls STEM Society again had the privilege to work with North Suffolk Public Library on March 31, 2018. AGSS did their ever-popular Aerospace workshop here, which entails the giving of a basic presentation on the physics of rocketry (lift, thrust, drag, etc.), building and flying the rockets, and of course, a trivia session. AGSS worked with about 15-20 students on how to build their rockets, and, after winning many prizes and going through the ever-rigorous 'flight inspection,' the students were brought outside to launch their creations. Most rockets went upwards of 200 ft in the air, and the students were extremely excited! The competition round followed after individual flights, where more prizes were distributed for the highest-flying rockets. All in all, this was an exciting day for both the All Girls STEM Society and all those involved. We have been invited back to work further with the Suffolk Public Libraries so stay tuned for more events!
The All Girls STEM Society Hampton Roads Chapter had the privilege of being invited to the Suffolk Public Library's Women's Fest 2018! The festival, which was held on March 17, 2018, is dedicated to commemorating Women's Month as well as raise awareness of women's issues. It was a very fun day for all involved, as the AGSS team (pictured above) did a stellar job talking to visitors and students alike about AGSS Hampton Road's mission and events. Many students were able to answer some trivia questions, get prizes, and make crafts, all the while learning about how women are underrepresented in STEM. We had many people interested in the mission of the All Girls STEM Society and are looking forward to working with them in the near future. We also even got an interview with the Virginia Pilot!
